Chocolate Sponge Cake
Ingredients
- Eggs, separated 3 eggs
- Baking powder ½ tsp.
- Vanilla essence ½ tsp.
- Cocoa powder 10 gms
- Sugar, powdered 90 gms.
- Refined flour (maida) 85 gms
Method:
- Preheat the oven to hot and grease and
flour a cake tin.
- Sift the sugar and remove any lumps.
- Beat the egg whites until they form
firm peaks, then add the baking powder and essence and beat till
stiff.
- Beat in the egg yolks one at a time
and gradually beat in the sugar until the butter is very light and
foamy.
- Carefully fold in the flour and Cocoa
powder, using a
metal spoon.
- Pour the mixture into the cake tin and
bake for 10 – 15 minutes until firm.
Note: Be careful not to over bake or the
cake will get dry. The best way to test is lightly press the cake in the
center with your fingers, if no impression is left then the cake is
ready.
